If you were an emerging artist starting to build a following of fans online, would you offer your songs for free download on your website? Why or why not? If not, what would you charge for your songs?
If I was an artist with fans online I think I would do kind of a mixture of the two. I would have a free sample of music, but not the full song, then probably charge anywhere from $.50-$1.00 per song. I think that let's the listeners test the song, but then it's not that expensive to download it, and hopefully lots of people would download, so the low cost wouldn't matter. It's still a business, and if I'm someone they never heard of, they're going to want to try it out.
