Address to Energize

In my Social Media class we recently discussed the topic of groundswell. In class we defined it as, "a social trend in which people use technologies to get the things they need from each other, rather than from traditional institutions like corporations."

The thing that I found fascinating about this is that the power is no longer in the hands of the corporations. Power now lies with the people.

To me, what this means is that power is no longer in the hands of the company, it is the companies job, and duty if you will, to reach out to it's audiences and trusted consumers to help speak for them. This can be done by Energizing their audiences. This is tapping into the word of mouth of the people, and having them help to boost moral for that company.

(nothing helps to build moral like a team [like being a team with your consumers])

During class, we discussed five steps to follow when trying to energize your consumers. The biggest one that sticks out in my mind is step three. Step three really gets down to the core of the issue by asking ,"What is my consumer's problem?" because the way I see it, how can you fix anything without knowing what the problem is.

In my mind, to put this whole point simply, if you want to make an impact with your public, address them, talk with them. The best way to promote your company or business is to address the things that are most important to your consumers.

Here are the 5 steps for energizing that we discussed in Social Media (just in case you were wondering):

  1. Figure out if you want to energize the groundswell
  2. Check the social techno-graphics profile of your customers
  3. Ask yourself, “What is my customer’s problem?”
  4. Pick a strategy that fits your customer’s social techno-graphic profile and problem
  5. Don’t start unless you can stick around for awhile
